In yesterday’s post I talked about the development of a new logo for the church website. I spent some time this evening in Google looking for topics like “Logo Design”. I found several sites similar to this one that show a list of highly successful logos and critiques of good and bad logos.
Today’s trial logo for the website has a few things going for it:
- All of the colors in this logo are part of the color scheme for this website.
- The text uses the current font for the web site (Georgia)
- It combines the silhouette of the church from the Journey
- It adds a tag line “Connect -> Grow -> Go “
#1 and #2 are important because the logo needs to be consistent with the design of the rest of the site. Failure to match would make the logo seem like the beloved clay Christmas ornament made by your four-year-old that clashes with the Martha Stewart inspired ribbons and bows of the rest of the tree.
#3 is important because the front of our church is iconic. A few months ago I got a request from a local photographer about the timer on our steeple lights. He wanted a picture of the steeple at night but the light timer was out of sync due to daylight savings time.
#4 The tag line is the basic metaphor for the core menu structure of the site. With any web site menu structure there is stuff that will not fit, but in general we have tried to place our core ministries in the Connect / Grow / Serve menus.
So, what do you think?
