On Saturday, November 5, 2011 Avalon: A Center for Women and Children will host the 2nd Annual “One Night Without a Home” event for area youth. Youth participants will not only learn about homelessness, but will pledge to raise awareness in their own community by sleeping outside for a night. The experience will be kicked off with a soup-kitchen style dinner at 5 p.m., followed by discussion groups, educational activities, a group movie and an overnight stay outside with only the box they bring with them at the Jamestown 4-H Education Center (3751 4-H Club Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185). A registration fee of $25 for youth (grades 6-12) and $15 for adult chaperones will include dinner, event t-shirt, activities and breakfast. A Police officer and Medical Doctor will be onsite in a volunteer capacity throughout the event. A clinic will also be running for all first aid needs.
