Independence Day will soon be here. Our national freedom is certainly a wonderful gift that should never be taken for granted. There is a far greater freedom, however, that some of us may take for granted without realizing it. This freedom cannot be taken away by the actions of others. It can, however, be wasted by our own failure to discover and claim its power.Jesus said, “You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.” God’s Word tells us about the freedom that a trusting relationship with Jesus Christ can bring. Scripture inspires and equips us to live a life worthy of our Christian calling. It tells about the work of God’s indwelling Spirit who empowers us to obey and serve him.
Learning to live a life of faith and experiencing freedom from the oppression of worry and fear is an ongoing, intentional journey. How blessed we are that God calls us to make this journey within the fellowship of his people. We help one another as we seek to follow Christ. The Adult Christian Education team wants to continue encouraging everyone to find meaningful relationships through the many open doors of study, worship, and ministry. We not only can benefit from the experiences and encouragement of others, but we can also be a blessing to others as we join in using the gifts God has given to minister and serve in his name.
Please mark your calendars now for our Church-wide Fellowship Break-fast on Sunday, September 9. Our continental breakfast line will open for all early birds starting at 8:45 AM and remain open until 9:30 AM. There will be name tags for everyone to help us as we meet new people. What a wonderful way to reengage for the new Church year as we enjoy a meal together and meet some of our newer members. Watch for more details in the weeks to come.
We have a wonderful group participating in our New Member Class. It is meeting in the library during the Adult Bible Study hour each Sunday. This three week class helps introduce our new members to the life and ministry of WHBC. God continues to bless Walnut Hills with talented men and women, and we are grateful for all they bring to our church family.
It is not too late to join the Women’s Wednesday Bible Study group for our summer schedule. Join us at 11:30 for prayer followed by lunch on July 11 and 25 and August 8 and 22. We will resume our fall schedule on Wednesday, September 5 at 10:30 AM with a study of 1 Corinthians.
The Men’s Discipleship/Golfing group has resumed with their devotional time and nine holes of golf ($21.00) on Sunday afternoons. Vernon Carr is facilitating this group. You are invited to join these men at Williamsburg National each week starting with devotions at 3:00 PM Contact Vernon Carr for more information.
As we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, let us remember to worship and give thanks to the One who has been our faithful source of help and strength. And remember Paul’s words to Timothy, “Do not neglect the spiritual gift that is in you”. What better way to show our gratitude to God than by using our gifts and sharing our blessings with others.
Linda
