Do you know who Alma Hunt is and why she is honored in this way?
Named Executive Secretary of the WMU in 1948, Miss Alma gave 26 years of superior leadership and furthered the cause of missions. Her retirement years have afforded her even further opportunities to enhance mission causes. At 97, she keeps a full calendar of speaking engagements across the country serving as a Baptist stateswoman and goodwill ambassador.
What does the Alma Hunt Offering support?
The Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions makes possible special ministries, outreach projects and initiatives that are not funded through regular streams of giving but are uniquely connected to Virginia Baptists. These ministry allocations are determined annually for publication.
Who decides which ministries will be funded?
Since 1976 this offering has been a joint venture between Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) and the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) with the development of an annual goal and allocation of funds under the direction of a Virginia Missions Committee. This committee is composed of equal representation from WMUV Trustee Board and BGAV Executive Board as appointed and elected.

The Missions Council is coordinating WHBC mission ministry calendars for the remainder of 2007 in an effort to ensure that in-gathering projects do not overlap or result in duplication of effort during the same periods of time. Another goal is to assist WHBC in providing an intentional mission ministry focus which contains the element of evangelism in everything we choose to do as a congregation.
If you are working on or planning a mission ministry project that involves WHBC congregational resources (non-budgeted) we would ask that you contact one of us for calendar coordination.
